Soluble collagen is a water-dispersible form of collagen used in skincare primarily as a humectant and film former that helps retain moisture and impart a smooth, conditioned feel to the skin. It forms a hydrating film on the surface but, due to its large molecular size, does not penetrate to replace dermal collagen.
| Reported effect | How often | Notes |

| Allergic contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity | Rare | Risk higher with animal-derived collagen, especially in those with allergies to the source protein. |
| Anaphylaxis or severe allergic reaction | Very rare | Reported mainly with injectable bovine collagen rather than topical cosmetic use. |
