Many people are often dogged by sudden appearances of a sprinkle of Bumps on forehead and face. This unique skin condition leaves people confused as to whether to refer to them as pimples, or rashes or anything in particular. However, dermatologists have been able to uniquely identify them exactly as they are: bumps. They are simply referred to as bumps on forehead.

Much like a traffic congested road is characteristically dotted with vehicles, trucks, and pedestrians, the skin has a way of showing its congestion. These are the bumps and dots that often appear across our foreheads and face. They are merely pores which have become clogged (1).

The reasons for this clogging may include any of the following: pollution debris, dead skin cells, skincare and makeup products.

If instead of having skin with a smooth and seamless texture, you see a spattering of bumps appearing across your forehead and chins, this is an indication that you are congesting the pores of the skin. Nevertheless, it is important to distinguish these bumps from another skin condition known as forehead acne. This form of acne is more serious and has different causes.

Are bumps on forehead and pimples the same thing?

The easiest way to tell the difference between benign bumps and such acne is to assess if the region involves inflammation, pus or reddening. If these exist, then you are probably dealing with forehead acne (2). However, in case these turn out to be such bumps, the best way to get rid of them is to remove the substances acting as the cause.

It is impractical to ask individuals to avoid going about their everyday lives in order to avoid pollution or dirt. So the next best solution to this issue is to find the most suitable and safe way to remove such dirt and debris from the pores, to keep them clean and void of oil and dead skin cells.

Most dermatologists recommend people to maintain a healthy skin care routine and for good reason. Most skin care routines prescribed by dermatologists and skin care specialists follow a set pattern that helps keep skin clean and healthy. Cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and protecting are the main actions any good skin care routine provides (3).

Although there are many home remedies out there which claim to remove such bumps post shaving or hair removal, they are not vouched for by dermatologists. How your skin may react to specific natural ingredients like lemon juice, or apple cider vinegar or even egg whites all depends on your unique skin and allergies (4). So when it comes to getting rid of these bumps, following the skin care routine is essentially the best way to do so.

How to get rid of bumps on forehead?

One safe method that is recommended by dermatologists is known as double cleansing which is cleansing your skin twice in a two-step process, especially for people who use skin care products, makeup and tend to spend time outdoors (5). Although it sounds advanced, double cleansing is nothing but the act of repeatedly washing your face twice with a gentle oil-based cleanser.

This helps in gently cleaning out pores of all the dirt, debris and oils without being harsh on the skin. The first time removes makeup and heavy compounds on the face, while the second wash ensures that pores are opened and the dead skin cells are removed.

There are guidelines to follow if you choose to double cleanse. Firstly, it is essential to ensure that the type of cleanser used is an oil-based one, containing either salicylic acid or AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid), which can be both gentle and effective on the skin. Double cleansing should strictly be restricted to nighttime, after a day of exposure to pollution and activity. Because if repeated in the morning, you increase the risks of overly drying out the skin and issues that come along with it.

Incorporating double cleansing into your existing skincare routine should greatly help in smoothing skin out, especially on the forehead. Always be sure to use water that is not too hot or cold, since warm water is most suitable for opening up pores on the skin.

Along with this, be sure to not go overboard with the process. Often people tend to over clean and act harshly with their skin in their eagerness to remove the bumps. This can lead to disastrous results, such as dry skin related issues that make the skin much weaker and susceptible to easy wear and tear.

The simplest way to get rid of these benign bumps that appear on the forehead is to follow a good skincare routine prescribed to you by a dermatologist, after a thorough examination of your skin. The more specialized a routine, the more effective it tends to be in all aspects.
