Getting involved with gearing up for the most awaited time of the year, nobody manages to miss trying to look their best. The festival of lights is a beautiful time, with happiness and a sense of carefreeness floating in the air. With the best clothes, the most charming smile & glowing, clear skin adorning you……. who wouldn’t want to make heads turn?

Caring for your skin during busy times can be a stressful job, especially when there is pressure to look your best. As per the recommendation of our dermatologists, here are some simple steps you can take on your own to prepare and nurture your skin in the weeks, days and hours before Diwali.

Cast all your worries aside, stick to your daily skin care routine and make others stand in awe at your beautiful, clear skin.

Let’s start with the basics and the foundation to glowing skin.

  • Prepare your skin : The first step to take while preparing for the big festival is preparing your skin. A basic clean up or exfoliation is key to achieving healthy looking clear skin. Exfoliating dead skin cells and rejuvenating new cells underneath, with better absorption of your products, will leave you with fresh & healthy skin
  • Remember to wash your face twice a day : Wash your face in the morning and in the night, but do not wash more than 2 times a day. You need to get the dust and pollution off your face at regular intervals, especially during festivals since pollution tends to be more. But washing your face too often will strip your skin off its oils, making it look dull and dry. This in turn will stimulate the oil glands to secrete more oil, leading to more comedones.
  • Go to bed with a clean face : Pack a small bottle of rinse-free micellar water or micellar solution, a thermal water spray and some cotton pads so you’ll be able to cleanse your face and remove makeup every night, even if there’s no running water available.Micellar waters aren’t just toners; they actively cleanse your skin as well. This will help remove all the dust that has accumulated due to firecrackers and spending the day outside.
Diwali makes everything appear beautiful
Diwali is a time when everything looks beautiful, and you are no less
  • Hydrate and Protect : Sun exposure, dancing, and long days- all these things can lead to skin looking dull and dehydrated. Use a lightweight Hyaluronic & a Vitamin C serum to hydrate your skin. Using a product with high SPF will help banish dark spots and improves skin tone, revealing beautiful, glowing, clear skin—and who doesn’t want that?
  • Do not forget your under eyes : Staying up late and waking up early will lead to straining your eyes too much. We will focus on enjoying our time during Diwali and not on getting enough sleep to be refreshed. To help with this massaging under your eyes will help improve lymphatic drainage, decreasing morning under-eye puffiness. You can also soak tea bags in warm water, squeeze out the water, and place them on your eyes.
  • Lips : The long day out in the sun and exposure to pollution doesn’t go without having an effects on your lips as well. It’s important to ensure lips are left looking luscious and healthy. Mix sugar and water together, it works as a great lip exfoliator.Simply rub it on lips in a circular motion to remove dried skin. A lip balm rich in vitamin E will nourish and hydrate your lips, leaving them smooth and ready for the whole day.
  • Sleep well : Though this might be the last thing you want to do during Diwali, try and get at least 8 hours of sleep every day. Very aptly named, “beauty sleep” is important in giving you clear, healthy, clear skin
  • Avoid salty foods in the evening and try to refrain from indulging in too many sweets and oily products : Diwali is known for filling people up with sweets and oily food. However, it would be helpful to avoid highly salty foods as they can lead to puffiness.Sweets can trigger your insulin levels to shoot up, causing more oil secretion in your skin, leading to breakouts.
  • Eat Super Foods : Eat fresh vegetables and fruits which are rich in nutrients, especially vitamins and fibers. People often tend to forget this when they have more attractive food in the form of sweets and junk food inviting them. These will reflect on your face, giving it a healthy shine.
  • Drinking water helps : No matter what your skin type is oily, dry, normal or a combination it craves water. Drinking lots of water (2-3 ltrs) will keep your skin cells hydrated, preventing them from appearing dull. This is essential especially during Diwali since this can help balance out the effects of pollution on skin.  Ensure you distribute your intake of water throughout the day.

Having radiant, clear skin is all about following a regular regime. Ignoring your skin the rest of the time and paying attention to it only when in need is not a good approach. Follow these simple steps to get healthy, beautiful skin just in time for Diwali, and knock people to their knees. Be sure to stay safe around crackers!
